Look, if you’re reading this, you have enough money, because you have a computer or mobile device. Ergo, you’re not starving. So unfortunately, to have more money you just have to stop spending, put more money in the bank, and be happy with what you have. Which is about the most unsatisfying and unrealistic way to look at money as we could possible conjure up. The way to have more money is to MAKE more money, not be happy with what we have – that’s boring.
Unfortunately, it’s easier to decide to make more money than it is to actually make it. Which is why you have to walk around in a perpetual state of longing for more money, without actually being able to satisfy that craving in real time. All this leads you back to proposition one, the unsatisfying one: spend less and be more happy with what you’ve got. Which, as states above, doesn’t take you far.
So here you are, stuck in this limbo-land between wanting more and having less, perpetually accusing yourself of being whiny and ungrateful. This, in my opinion, is something you CAN do something about. Because you’re not whiny and ungrateful. Or else, you wouldn’t be having the thought that you are. People who are truly whiny don’t know that they are, nor do ungrateful people. So stop feeling guilty. You are simply ambitious and haven’t get reached your goal.
Being ambitious without having reached your goal is not the easiest place to be, because the chronic dissatisfaction that leads you to feeling guilty, ungrateful and grumpy is not a very happy place. You should be happy. You’re not starving, you’re not poor. Which is why I always say that being at peace with things, happy and grateful is not the way to lead your life. Instead, it is better to be ambitious and unrealized, with things to strive for that add tension and conflict to your life, and therefore, give it depth.
Look, you can keep trying to get rid of your whiny, ungrateful, ego-oriented desires. But it’s a lot of work. Instead, do what the Buddhists do and accept all these things in yourself. Let them float across your consciousness like friendly clouds. Then, go back to figuring out how to have more money.
